Washington Township consists of 38 square miles of rugged terrain and located in the southwestern Ohio valley with a population of 2567 in 2004. Washington Township has the Village of Moscow, Village of Neville, and the community of Point Isabel within its border. Residences are almost entirely single family on various size lots. We have about 40 small businesses, and over 10,000 acres are farmed. Washington Township also has the William H. Zimmer Electric Power Generating Plant, Meldahl Lock and Dam and Tate-Monroe Water Association water treatment plant with 500,000 gallon storage.
Washington Township also has 8.3 miles of US Route 52, a major highway connecting West Virginia to Cincinnati and points west. US Route 52 is a major trucking route for many types of cargo.
Washington Township also has 8.3 miles of the Ohio River. The Ohio River is heavily traveled by barges all year long. These barges carry coal and various types of hazardous chemicals. All barge traffic passing through Washington Township must go through Meldahl Lock and Dam located outside the Village of Neville. The Ohio River also carries a heavy amount of traffic from pleasure boats, especially in summer. Washington Township has two boat ramps, one of which is from ODNR located in the Neville Village.
